Position: Purchasing Manager

Job Summary

Directs and controls the purchase of all local and foreign material in a cost effective and efficient manner based on organizational needs and within standard operating procedures and guidelines.

  • Develops purchasing strategy and negotiates prices and contracts with suppliers.
  • Monitors the department to ensure that policies and protocols are followed and best practices are implemented.
  • Ensures purchase orders are expedited in keeping with demand requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers and vendors
  • Establish and maintain an approved vendor/supplier database
  • Develop, negotiate and administer purchasing agreements and contracts with suppliers in support of organizational requirements
  • Oversee supplier compliance with internal quality standards and external regulations
  • Develop and manage purchasing budgets and forecasts
  • Monitor and reduce purchase variances to meet profit objectives
  • Produce monthly reports on purchase commitments, costs and delivery performance
  • Ensures quality of procured items and addresses problems when they arise.
  • Responsible for the management and control of the departmental budget, assets and employees.
  • Work with relevant departments to manage inventory requirements
  • Ensures that the contracted Customs clearance provider is managed in accordance with purchasing timelines.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of foreign purchases to meet current and future demands while optimizing warehouse usage and avoiding overstock situations
  • Direct continuous improvement of purchasing processes in line with changing organizational needs and market conditions
  • Oversee the operations and daily activities of the purchasing department
  • Keeps up with trends in procurement.
  • Comply with the Company’s/ Department’s procedures and policies belonging
  • to the Quality Management System and the Health, Safety & Environmental Management System.
  • Fulfill the legal duties of the Occupational Safety & Health Act

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration, Logistics or related field.
  • CIPS qualification would be an asset
  • Three – Five years’ experience as Purchasing Manager in a Manufacturing environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
