On Thursday 10th December 2020, the ANSA McAL Group through the ANSA McAL Foundation began its first phase of tablet distribution to 25 schools through the Ministry of Education’s Adopt a School Programme. Attending the handover ceremony was the Minister of Education, Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly MP; Chairman of the ANSA McAL Foundation, Mr. Andrew Sabga; Chief Legal and External Affairs Officer for the ANSA McAL Group, Mrs. Frances Bain-Cumberbatch and the principal of Nelson Street Boys’ RC School, Mrs. Frances Gervais – Heath who accepted devices on behalf of her students.
The ‘ONE YARD’ virtual benefit concert which aired on Friday 30th October 2020 was powered by the ANSA McAL Group of Companies and produced by Ultimate Events Ltd. This unmatched virtual concert featured the best talent in the region that also contained an important CSR educational objective which was to provide access to remote learning for every child in the Caribbean.
Through the ANSA McAL Foundation (Est. 1993), the Group created a special ONE CARIBBEAN FUTURE FUND where donations that were made on the night of the concert, are currently being used towards providing technology to support home-based learning throughout the region.
Within in the next few weeks ANSA McAL will be distributing devices to principals of the remaining 24 schools which include; Rosehill RC Primary School, Laventille Road, East Dry River, Success Laventille Secondary School, Rosary Boys, Princess Elizabeth Special, Grande Rivière A.C, Cumuto Presbyterian, Matelot Community College, Rio Claro Hindu School, Moruga Secondary, Mayaro St Thomas RC , Princes Town Methodist , Five Rivers Islamia TIA, Bamboo Settlement Government Primary, Holy Saviour (Curepe) Anglica, San Fernando Girls Government, Debe Secondary, Grant Memorial Presbyterian, Vos Government Primary, Saraswati Girls Hindu College, Vishnu Boys Hindu, Brasso RC Primary School, Charis Works, Immortelle and Eshe’s.
The Group has also engaged the Ministries of Education in Barbados, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica and Guyana, and are in the process of providing tablets within the next few weeks to assist these islands who have also been grappling with the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic on their education systems.
