The Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association (TTGA) launches the 2012 golf season on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd January 2012 with the ANSA Merchant Bank Limited/TATIL Open Invitational Golf Tournament at the St. Andrew’s Golf Club, Moka, Maraval.
2012 marks the 19th consecutive year that TATIL, in conjunction with ANSA Merchant Bank Limited, who joined as co-sponsors in 2004, will be title sponsors of this tournament. The TTGA has received another TT$45,000.00 sponsorship for 2012.
This prestigious event is eagerly awaited by competitive golfers in Trinidad and Tobago. A field of one hundred and twenty eight golfers will compete in this two-day tournament which tees off early on Saturday morning.
This year there will be six categories:
- Championship
- 1st Flight
- 2nd Flight
- Seniors
- Super Seniors
- Ladies Flight
This is the first tournament of the year where golfers who aspire to represent the country in International and Caribbean Golf Tournaments can begin to accumulate points toward national ranking.
Competition will be especially keen this year for places on the national teams, as Trinidad and Tobago will defend four of the six trophies in the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships later this year in St Kitts.
The St. Andrews Golf course is in pristine condition and the organizers are looking forward to a successful weekend among the golfers.
Defending champion Talin Rajendranath is pursuing his studies and is unable to defend his title this year. In the ladies division, defending champion, Tracey Clarke, will be looking to add another win to her resume. Senior champion, Nazeem Haniff and Super Senior Champion, Robert Grell are out to retain their titles as well.
We invite you to send your sports writers and photographers to cover what promises to be an exciting tournament.
