 The 2011 Awards Ceremony Issue – 2011Awards Gala a Smashing Success

Dr Kim Johnson and Prof Surujpal Teelucksingh of Trinidad & Tobago, and Dr Lennox Honychurch of Dominica the 2011 Anthony N Caribbean Awards Laureates were feted in style at the Hilton, Trinidad, on April 9, as they received their prizes in Arts & Letters, Science & Technology, and Public & Civic Contributions.

In poignant acceptance speeches, all the laureates thanked their parents and their teachers, and providence for placing them in the Caribbean, and being given the opportunity to pursue the work they have given their lives to.

Johnson thanked his mother for instilling in him the drive to excel, and his father for the sense of social responsibility. Teelucksingh thanked his mother, who, he said, “at 21 was a widow, with two young sons, and who lived fast and died young” but had managed to do right by her children ……..
