An ANSA McAL Team from Trinidad & Tobago, headed by Mr. Anthony N. The team also met with several key Jamaican private and government representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, the Wisynco Group Ltd, the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association and the Jamaica Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

This was the first visit to Jamaica by Mr. Sabga III since assuming the role of Group Chief Executive Officer in January 2020, given the onset of the pandemic. He was accompanied on the trip by Mr. Andy Mahadeo – Manufacturing Sector Head, Mr Adam Sabga – Construction Sector Head, Mr. David Hadeed – Managing Director, Carib Glassworks Ltd and ANSA Polymer, Mr. Christian Llanos, Head of Finance and Supply Chain, Mr. Devon Oudit – Managing Director, ANSA Chemicals Ltd and Ms. Sarah Inglefield – Head of Culture and Communications.

Discussions with private sector entities centred on ANSA McAL expanding its presence in Jamaica and the Group’s long-term commitment to continuing to invest more than J$150 million in its business operations to improve overall efficiency and profitability. Mr. Sabga III highlighted to the Jamaica audience ANSA McAL’s expansion plans in the country and within CARICOM, beginning with exports of paint and chlorine to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

Speaking with private sector representatives Mr. Sabga III stated, “As a manufacturer, from beer and soft drinks, to paint and clay blocks, we believe that certain products should be locally and regionally manufactured, and we are ready to compete against the best-imported brands on price and quality. We have the right combination of people, technology, and capital to make this happen.”

Berger Paints Jamaica Ltd (BPJL) which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, remains the largest paint manufacturing entity in the English-speaking Caribbean, with 95% of the company’s products manufactured locally. In 2017, the ANSA McAL Group completed its acquisition of Lewis Berger Overseas Holdings (LBOH), a major shareholder of all three Berger companies, in Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Jamaica.

ANSA Chemicals Jamaica Ltd, established in 2020, supplies large volumes of bulk bleach, chlorine gas and chlorine to local industrial and commercial customers. They are also the supplier of chlorine to the National Water Company which provides clean water for the Jamaican population.
