The Chaguanas Chamber of Commerce wants Mayor Gopaul Boodhan to hold his hand on re-introducing the wrecker in the borough until adequate parking is available.

Chamber president Richie Sookhai made the call when he spoke to reporters following the opening of a new Penta Colour Studio in Montrose, Chaguanas, on Thursday 22nd October, 2015. He said while wrecker would clear the streets of illegally parked vehicles,it could also chase away much needed customers from the area.

He said while there had been tremendous growth in the borough’s retail sector, it could happen at a faster pace if chronic traffic congestion problems were solved. Sookhai said the problem of street vending must be addressed by law enforcement authorities since he believes that illegal vending was getting out of control.

Sookhai added that the opening of the Penta Colour Studio was an indication that more businesses are coming to central Trinidad.

In response to the concerns raised by the Chamber president, the Chaguanas Mayor promised that there would be consultations before the wrecker was re-introduced.

Boodhan said parking alternatives were being considered, including use of empty lots and possible introduction of a park and ride system.

Roger Roach, managing director at ANSA Coatings Limited, said the new Colour Studio was a flagship store which would indelibly stamp the company’s presence in central Trinidad.

“Our intention is to bring a new dimension of coatings products to the residential and corporate community, who will now be able to enjoy a service level that is best in class, while they shop in comfort for their favourite paints, accessories and specialty products. What we have brought to Chaguanas— to home owners, contractors, property developers, interior designers and the business community—is a new, international retail experience,” he said.

“This store is infused with textured coating applications, model rooms and specialised colour matching software that will expand your thinking and provide renditions to aid with colour co-ordination.”

Roach said ANSA Coatings, an ISO-9001 certified company, had been manufacturing and distributing high quality coatings products for the last 59 years.

“Whilst we appreciate international competition, we reject the notion that foreign is better. Ladies and gentlemen, based on the present economic outlook, if there was ever a time to be patriotic to your local brands, that time is now.

“Our group views the borough and wider constituency of Chaguanas as an important and strategic location for growth and development of our businesses,” he said.
