Assistant Underwriter

Job Summary:

  • The Assistant Underwriter will be a member of a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to providing support to the Salesforce.  He/she will be required to market COLFIRE’s products and services, assess and accept risks pertaining to all General Insurance products and services.  He/she will also be required to support the Online Agency network, provide quotations, treat with customer service issues and professionally and effectively represent the Company.

Job Description:

  • Undertake assessments of Motor, Property and Liability risks and provide quotations, for these lines of business.
  • Process new, renewal and endorsement transactions and ensure all required documents are uploaded to the Insurance Application.
  • Respond to enquiries from internal and external customers and Agents and Sales Representatives.
  • Authorize Motor, Property and Lability quotations within specified limits of authority.
  • Authorize Motor, Property and Liability transactions within specified limits of authority.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and conduct surveys for Insurance purposes.
  • Review and update policies earmarked for renewal.
  • Survey Properties for risk assessment.
  • Receive funds and process receipts for internal and external customers and safeguard and account for payments collected.
  • Undertake the End of Day process and prepare supporting documents and reports.
  • Prepare premium financing contracts.
  • Monitor and respond to emails.
  • Log on to CISCO Contact Centre, respond to all calls and effectively address all queries in keeping with the agreed timelines.
  • Monitor and process Service Centre transactions.
  • Process refund transactions and assign registries to Finance to prepare payments.
  • Process Follow-ups assigned.
  • Conduct assigned telemarketing for customers, Agents, Sales Representatives within agreed timelines to support and improve customer retention.
  • Contact assigned Agents for monthly engagement.
  • Monitor and manage policies with outstanding premiums.
  • Assist with servicing and managing Corporate Accounts.
  • Register clients for the Defensive Driving Program.
  • Assist with training and development of Online Agency staff.
  • Visit and monitor Online Agencies to ensure compliance and prepare reports with recommendations.
  • Provide and analyse market information and activities, identify trends, and make recommendations to develop strategies and products.
  • Attend and represent COLFIRE at promotions.
  • Work closely with team members and interface regularly with other teams to achieve the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly planning, monthly production and other general meetings.
  • Develop business relationships with customers, Agents and Intermediaries to the benefit of all parties.
  • Market COLFIRE’s products and services, negotiate premiums and underwrite quality risks in keeping with the company’s Underwriting guidelines. 
  • Maintain in all transactions the highest standards of quality and service in keeping with COLFIRE’s Core Values.
  • Professionally and effectively represent COLFIRE and deliver excellent customer service in every interaction.
  • Consistently contribute to the continuing development of COLFIRE and its products and services.
  • To perform any other duties and activities as they relate to the operations of the Company.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a similar/related field.
  • TTII State License/CII Certificate or other equivalent general insurance qualification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Junior Underwriter or similar position in the Industry.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong networking, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, team building, negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Passionate, driven and goal oriented.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision in a fast paced, demanding service environment.
