Mr. Troy Cadogan, Managing Director of ANSA McAL Trading (Guyana) Limited and 2015 ANSA McAL Foundation Laureate Dr. Paloma Mohamed Martin – Arts & Letters and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Guyana presented tablets to Minister of Education Guyana, the Honourable Priya Manickchand.
On Wednesday 30th December 2020, the ANSA McAL Foundation donated 100 Tablets to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information in Guyana. These tablets were purchased with funds raised from the ‘ONE YARD’ virtual benefit concert which aired on Friday 30th October 2020. The concert which was powered by the ANSA McAL Group of Companies showcased some of the best talent in the region and had the very important objective of facilitating access to remote learning for children throughout the Caribbean during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Attending the handover ceremony was the University of Guyana Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paloma Mohamed Martin who is also an ANSA McAL 2014 Laureate, the Minister of Education, the Honourable Priya Manickchand and Managing Director, ANSA McAL Trading Ltd (Guyana), Mr. Troy Cadogan.
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand said that the tablets, will be donated to students in the hinterland areas who will be writing the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination in 2021. The tablets will be preloaded with educational programmes to assist with learning during the pandemic. The Minister also stated that students in Guyana have been hit hard due to COVID-19 with no devices or internet connectivity to be involved in online learning.
Through the special ONE CARIBBEAN FUTURE FUND created with the funds raised from the ONE YARD concert, the ANSA McAL Foundation has already distributed tablets to Ministries of Education in Trinidad, Barbados Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica.
