Trinidad and Tobago will be represented in Mission ShakthiSAT, a global space education initiative empowering girls through science and technology, by Kaitlyn Sahatoo.
Currently pursuing her studies at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Kaitlyn departed for India on 18 August and will participate in the programme from 22-31 August 2026. Over five intensive days, she will work alongside industry experts to gain hands-on experience in satellite engineering and space technology.
Advanced Training in Satellite Technology and Spacecraft Engineering
As part of Mission ShakthiSAT, Kaitlyn will joins delegates from 108 countries in a five-day technical programme designed to provide an advanced, industry-oriented learning experience in spacecraft engineering and satellite technology. Participants will also contribute to building and preparing the satellite for launch.
From Trinidad and Tobago to a Global Space Mission
Kaitlyn’s Mission ShakthiSAT journey began in April 2025 when she joined the Trinidad and Tobago cohort of 111 girls. At the time, she was a student at Parvati Girls’ Hindu College.
After completing the programme’s online STEM curriculum, she earned her place as Trinidad and Tobago’s delegate through a panel interview that assessed leadership, creativity and technical knowledge.
ANSA McAL Supports Young STEM Talent
ANSA McAL is supporting Kaitlyn’s participation by covering her entire airfare through Soroptimist International of Port of Spain (SIPOS), the local partner responsible for administering Mission ShakthiSAT in Trinidad and Tobago.
The support reflects ANSA McAL’s commitment to sustainability and creating opportunities that help young people develop their capabilities, pursue new possibilities and contribute to the future of Trinidad and Tobago.

Mission ShakthiSAT: Empowering Girls Through STEM and Space Technology
Mission ShakthiSAT is one of the world’s largest international satellite education initiatives dedicated to empowering girls through science, technology, engineering and innovation. Launched globally in January 2025 by Space Kidz India and founder Dr. Srimathy Kesan, the programme now involves approximately 12,000 participants from 108 countries.
Participants receive comprehensive training in spacecraft engineering, satellite technology, power systems, testing and mission operations, while collaborating with peers from around the world on a real satellite mission.
Inspiring the Next Generation of STEM Leaders
For Kaitlyn, the experience is an opportunity to learn alongside young women from across the globe, contribute to an international space mission and return to Trinidad and Tobago with new knowledge and experiences to share.
