ANSA McAL’s business from the East/West Corridor contributes more than $1 billion to the national economy, said Gerry C. Brooks, the conglomerate’s Chief Operating Officer. Brooks was speaking at the launch of ANSA Coatings Ltd’s new Penta Colour Studio , corner First Street and the Eastern Main Road, San Juan.

“Our group employs over 1,500 people in the East/West Corridor and indirectly employs over 10,000 people. Our East/West Corridor business contributes in excess of $1.5 billion to the economy. Our roots run deep here,” he said. “They pre-date Independence and precede World War I. Standards is a landmark in the Croisee and four miles east is the iconic Carib Brewery and CaribGlass factories. North of this is where the Abel Building Solution (ABS) head office is represented.”

He said ANSA McAL’s roots in the East/West Corridor goes back a century. He said the setting up of the studio in San Juan shows ANSA McAL’s commitment to ensuring the group’s products and services are readily available to homeowners, contractors and customers. He reviewed ANSA McAL’s half-year financial results, which show the sound financial health of the company.

“The group generated revenues of $2.898 billion and profit before tax of $414 million, which is up two per cent over the prior year period.” Turning to legislation that will impact on business activity, he said there are other “critical” pieces of business legislation which are needed to drive economic growth and which must be incorporated into the current legislative term.

“The Beverage Container Bill will impact positively on the entire country environmentally and commercially. The bill saves vital foreign exchange using materials that can be recycled. It creates jobs in transport, collection and sorting. It removes unwanted plastic and waste from our water, saving millions of dollars in flood, agricultural and housing damage.”
